Art/Music

We never made it to any art museums, which is criminal really considering how many treasures are in Mexico. But we did see some ancient relics, folk art, and lots of marching bands [big deal here]. Plus there was indie rock [we found it and loved it], norteno music, and lots of dancing. We’ll hit the museums next time.

Marching bands are a big deal in Mexico. These folks were practicing in monument to the revolution on a Saturday morning.

It happens nightly, but the mariachi jam in Mexico City’s Plaza Garabaldi always seems to be amazing. The point is for the dueling bands to get paid to play people’s parties, but most of fun is the crowd making the party happen live.

Norteña bands.

The music, the costumes—everything is perfect.

The sites from above, and below, were exciting.

An art fair.

We might as well have been in Manhattan at this hipster art/music show. The well-heeled discuss photography at a new art gallery.

BARR, a musician we know from LA, took the stage and sang entirely in English. The crowd was into it regardless.

The mob scene at the door; a wary glance from the doorman.
