Teotihuacan About hour north of Mexico City is another city of sorts. Teotihuacan was the ancient capital of the Aztec empire, and is home to one of the world’s biggest pyramids. Building the complex took a lot of sacrifice [literally]. The site’s largest pyramid was constructed with 3 million tons of stone. Corridors in many of the rooms were decorated with intricate carved and painted glyphs of serpents and birds. A steep wall surrounding the 2 kilometer complex is decorated with entire panels of scenes. Archeologists are pretty certain that the venders hawking cheep shawls and pan flutes were not part of the original civilization.
Approaching El Piramide del Sol.
Walking those 248 steps was grueling…
But the view was worth it.
Yes, it was romantic.
Walking up along the 2km expanse; a glyph carved into one of the walls.
On top, and on the ground.
Green and pink tuna fruit on a cactus tree growing at the site.
