manifesto: to make your getting together with each other something different, someway more. not just music but all about the music; making you dance, making you stay out later. going for the magic of being right there in what’s happening, with no hype, nothing elitist, everyone invited. plus giving back and being involved in making creativity happen.

I’m a one man operation, with a million amazing people helping out, however many nights a week. I’m currently drafting an up-to-date thanks list, but for now, let me just say thanks to all the great old friends who have helped make all these shows happen over the years. You all have made the experience of these shows a more personal experience, and built what could just be a scene into a vibrant family. THANKS!

I’m always looking for more bands & acts & spectacles & curiosities to charge people money to see. if you have such a thing, write me with details and maybe we’ll work together. millions will be made.

| JAMES FERRARO | of SKATERS
“Beautiful new limited edition album from James Ferraro of The Skaters. This one is intended as a soundtrack to the resurrection and transubstantiation of the body after death via the fertilisation of the second world via the second sperm. This is some of his most heavenly synth/drone work to date, like a more Kosmiche-inflected Marble Surf, combining organic accumulations of glissing synth with choirs of angel tones and cracked cassette interventions. Absolutely gorgeous. “The door of heaven gates the edge of life, in the door looking in the eyes of the hourglass, the dance of time projects images of life memory experienced in the shell. In the departure from earth the second self sperm flows into the egg of the second world. There tears are a reminder of waters gift as the physical plane dissolves into the recesses of the mind and the egg is fertilised in the living memory of minds still in the plane passed.” Comes in a plastic case with beautiful original black and white art by James. Highly recommended.” - http://noisenotmusic.wordpress.com

| HUMAN RESOURCES |
Jeremy Krinsley, erstwhile scene reporter for Impose Magazine, makes pretty, textural noise compositions
| MYSPACE / MP3s |– http://myspace.com/humanresources

| GUARDIAN ALIEN |
three piece featuring Greg Fox from Liturgy, Man Forever, Teeth Mountain, GDFX, and others.
| MYSPACE / MP3s |– http://myspace.com/theguardianalien

| CAMPFIRES |
from Chicago. “Campfires latest tracks are palpable to any guy on the same page as Olivia Tremor Control. Crunchy, rustic bedroom pop with enough noise to rival a steel mill. For the time being, Jeff Walls is taking it solo even though it sounds like he is playing for eight (live line up is in the oven). Just look how crafty the guy is, he’s carving his own spearhead!” -http://weeklytapedeck.com
| MYSPACE / MP3s |– http://myspace.com/campfiresmusic

| SLEEP IN SUNDAYS |
to these ears, the muted lofi pop of St Louis’s Sleep in Sundays brings to mind the Supreme Dicks, and maybe a bit of Windsor for the Derby.
| MYSPACE / MP3s |– http://myspace.com/sleepinsundays

| ISLAND’S EYELIDS |
Brooklyn man-about-the-scene Josiah Wolfson. “Heavy-smoke-drone-core by Brooklyn’s Josiah. Sound-design-spreads meld into psych-drum-nostalgia. Alien melodies overtake rusting hardrives… buried and unburied and reburied emotions surface in treated guitars peaking through. Fuzzy and textured, but never harsh. Endless foreign soil to explore. organic? electronic? Beautiful, strange, full-length, debut! Art by Josiah.” - Nat Hawks, Via LFT Records

GET INVOLVED IN THE MARKET HOTEL PROJECT! - http://markethotel.org

next Project meeting: TUESDAY AUGUST 24TH, 8PM
@ MARKET HOTEL - 957 Broadway, Brooklyn | JMZ - Myrtle/Broadway

ANNOUNCING - a new initiative to create a sustainable, all ages, open-to-the-community, 7-nights-a-week home for independent music and art, in the Market Hotel space. Market Hotel has existed for over two years and in that time has hosted countless legendary events and drawn huge international notice… all of this under the constraints of operating completely underground and with no budget. Now the time has come to channel that momentum and create a fully realized space that serves the whole community, that will help define the NYC / Brooklyn scene into the future.

MARKET HOTEL PROJECT is a new not-for-profit organization dedicated to swiftly reopening and improving the Market Hotel space, by making the venue more viable, comfortable, safe, and better able to weather legal attention. Especially in these days of ever-encroaching commercialism and corporatism in “indie rock,” we envision a space that is a non-commercial spiritual home for independent rock music and independent art - but also is sustainable and sanctioned enough to expand the horizons of independent-minded tastes, and open our doors to music and art from the rest of our diverse Bushwick community.

RECENT DEVELOPMENTS:

– All of the five summonses issued in relation to Market Hotel on 4/3/2010 have been dismissed.

– http://forum.markethotel.org has been launched to provide a forum for volunteers to discuss ideas and propose new directions for the Market Hotel Project

– Paperwork has been filed with the State of New York to establish Market Hotel Project as a limited liability corporation. The next step in this process is to apply with the IRS to become a full-fledged 501(c)(3) non-profit. While we await that process, Market Hotel Project has been offered fiscal sponsorship by the Fractured Atlas organization.

– An application has been submitted for a “Letter of No Objection” from the New York City Department of Buildings for the Market Hotel building, which states that our current use is consistent with historic use of the building. This document is the first step toward legal occupancy and towards fulfilling requirements to obtain a license from the State Liquor Control Commission to sell beer and wine, among several other licenses. The next steps in the architectural / code compliance process are architectural renderings and plans submissions towards beginning building upgrades and obtaining a “Place of Assembly” permit.

– Market Hotel Project’s first grant proposal application has been submitted, for The Metlife Foundation / Ford Foundation / LINC jointly offered “Space for Change: Building Communities Through Innovative Art Spaces” grant. This grant application was submitted in conjunction with Showpaper. The next step in the grant writing process is to fine tune the language we drafted for this application, and apply for more grants!

Get involved! Write to us with ideas and ideas for help. thx!

FYI - I book lots of shows, but so do lots of other people, so if you want to book a show & can’t get a response out of me, you should try contacting these other great NYC independent & ALL AGES showfolk below. I recommend perusing their links and their calendars to see if they’re the right fit for you, or just to see what’s going on (for the record, blindly mass emailing all of these people will not make you a lot of friends, and probably will cause people to NOT want to book you, word to the wise)
